Your Vows are the most important element of your wedding ceremony.
Your vows are the monent you express from your heart your love for your spouse and the highest aspirations for your marriage.
In a custom wedding, your vows have the potential to be the highlight of the ceremony - something you will always remember.
For some people, just the thought of speaking in front of others is terrifying. For others, writing comes easily. Wherever you find yourself on this spectrum, there are many ways to approach your vows. Together, we can find the way that is just right for you.
When we sit down for our initial consultation, we will discuss your vows in detail. Know that whether you choose to recite traditional vows, contemporary vows, mix and match your vows from samples that I will provide, or write your own from scratch, I will coach you to create vows that will be meaningful to you.
Here are just a few of the many approaches to your vows that you might take:
A traditional vow:
"I, ___, take you, ___, to be my _____,
to have and to hold from this day forward,
for better for worse, for richer for poorer,
in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish,
until death do us part."
A contemporary vow:
"____, I love you. You are my best friend.
Today I give myself to you in marriage.
I promise to encourage and inspire you,
to laugh with you,
and to comfort you in times of sorrow and struggle.
I promise to love you in good times and in bad,
when life seems easy and when it seems hard,
when our love is simple and when it is an effort.
I promise to cherish you and to always hold you in highest regard.
These things I give to you today and each day of our life together.
A vow template:
"___(name of spouse),
ever since we first met ___ (when) at ____ (where),
you _____ (touched, amazed, dazzled, moved etc.) me
with your ____ (beautiful smile, kind heart, wit, strength, courage, etc.).
You are the most ___ (amazing, incredible, thoughtful, caring etc)
___ (partner, person, woman, man).
Because of you, I am ____ (a better person, more confident, more focused etc.).
I love that we ____ (share the same values, enjoy the Red Sox, have so much fun dancing, want the same things in life etc.).
And so, because of ___ (what you mean to me, how much I love you, etc. )
I promise to: ___ (love you, respect you, laugh with you, be there for you etc)
_____ (for as long as we both shall live; today, tomorrow, and always; forever etc.)"
